Actor, dancer, and owner of Emerging Artists Musical Theatre Academy based in Los Angeles, CA
Sonya Rose Henning
A California central coast native, Sonya is deeply passionate about the art of storytelling, reflective in her work on screen, stage, and in the classroom. She grew up taking every dance class the local studio had to offer; learning ballet, tap, jazz, and ballroom and is an avid salsa dancer to date.
Participating in youth programming at P.C.P.A. and performing in the regional theaters, her plan was always to continue her education. She went on to earn her B.A. in Theatre Arts from California State University, Fullerton. It was there that she discovered her love of teaching. Founding Emerging Artists Musical Theatre Academy in 2013, a children's theatre company, she teaches and directs, hoping to inspire young artists to explore and nurture their own creative spirit.
Sonya currently trains with celebrity booking coach Amy Lyndon and is excited to have just signed with new management, A.E. Talent. She is always delighted to get a new script and portray that hard-ball detective, empathetic teacher, or whacky neighbor. Her favorite roles though are the ones that are transformative, teaching us something about ourselves, shedding light and giving new perspective.
For more information, see her Fun Facts below.
Sonya stands at 5'9 with green eyes and a big smile. She was home schooled until age 14, giving her a unique perspective on education and is always game for a new outdoor adventure. She wishes every day were Taco Tuesday, loves a good dad joke, quotes "I Love Lucy" episodes often, and nerds out on anthropological facts.
Lastly, if she could wave a magic wand, she would live on a farm (near Los Angeles, ha!) with pet cows and a sustainable garden, continue her work in film and television, and contribute philanthropically to theatre education around the world.
